While Magickal Things has turned into a product line and retail art Boutique, Marjorie Dulaney’s art has transcended to include themes and styles that compliment fantasy art but are not exclusively so. Over the summer I paint a great deal with a more contemporary style and universal meditative themes. My most recent project that will continue is my tribute to the Master Artists of the Renaissance period. For this project I am working in CHARCOAL exclusively. this project is intend to look like the sketches of the masters paintings. Charcoal is one of the oldest drawing implements. It never fades though it is delicate on paper. these designs will then be reproduced onto fabrics and textiles. Like peasant blouses and tapestries and bed linens. This project is dear to me because charcoal was my first successful medium and it kept me drawing.

In order to separate the artist from the merchandise end of the business I have decided to start “TREE OF LIFE” art and design by marjorie dulaney. This way I am not limited to the genre of art I choose to create. Magickal Things will still produce merchandise by hand but the retail may include outside sources where as Tree of Life is Exclusively Marjorie Dulaney’s Creations. I will probably have some retail items at a show under “Tree of Life” but the focus will be on the art.

While I am going to travel more this year I am also interested in participating in all local town events. This means I will be available for face painting on fun days and I really do want to have an exhibit in the local 4th of July parade . I may need volunteers for this. I just want my town to be as fun and magickal as possible. For us all to have a sense of wonder and hope and joy.

Culpeper’s resturants are diverse. There are the regular chains, but there are also some great family owned and run resturants, cafes, and diners. We have a close nit community. Merchants in Culpeper take pride in there town and contribute to many local programs. When you eat at one of these establishments you are keeping our town’s character and adding to the abiance.

Local Music exists alive and well in Culpeper and the surrounding areas. A short drive can lead you to some great local music. Local artists work can also be seen in may of the resturants and Community buliding. Downtown also has it’s share of art galleries and craft boutiques.

Which leads us to Locust street across from the Movie Theater. That is where Magickal Things studio and art boutique rests nestled in the Medical Arts Building. This small Boutique is owner operated by Marjorie Dulaney. This is a place where an ecclectic mix of art, handcrafted items, socially consious products, and esoteric supplies collide. Everything from elegant hand dyed garments to fairy wings and incense. Bellydance gear and Beatles key chains. Handmade jewelry and sage. Crystal balls and fortune bamboo. Tapestries and Sunglasses. This store is all about having fun looking around an intamate space that has been describe as like going into the back of a gypsy wagon. The owner encourages browsing and enjoying the wares. she also encourages others to create.

Next Door is Second Look Studio Yoga and Inspired Coumunity. This space holds classes, promotes art, and encourages a healthy body, mind, and spirit.

Culpeper has something for everyone and is evolving everyday. An hours drive away to Chalottesvile and Lurray Caverns is a bonus. Come vist us.

I am celebrating the Solstice begining at Noon Monday the 21st. This is a small store so we have to follow fire codes. My town is quite wonderful as well. And 3hr parking is right across the srteet. At 7pm Second Look Studio will be doing yoga in honor of the solstice.

Magickal Things on 121 suite 117 West locust Street Culpeper Virginia has been great for inspiration and creation. Due to festival scheduling I have not been able to stay open every weekend. I made this choice to be cost effective and because I have not gone into full gear advertising myself. So far it is a studio art boutique that also offers some metaphisical items like crystals and vintage books and incense and candles. I am also featuring some select items from other local artists. I have also introduced drums and other instuments. My shop by the way is not large at all. I make the most of the space I have and my generous lanlords have allowed me to spill my art and merchandise into the lobby during operational hours. So if you are looking for a cool little nook to enjoy exploring stop by. If you are looking for a boarders style metaphysical store that has lods of peeps like you well maybe in the future.

Honestly me keeping Magickal Things as a permanent location will depend upon support and finances from customers and the community of bohemians that like to keep something out of t he ordinary around. My current space does not accomdate say a drum circle or a dance class or a large class ritual. But in the future I may be able to secure a larger space, if the need arises. As for get togethers and gatherings I alsways have local and some distant local events listed on my website and advertised in my store wth flyers. I also distribute these flyers to other businesses in the community.

Some things I’d like to have in the future:
small meditation classes- shamanic jouney style
Natural Magick School- selections of nature based techniques and beliefs
drum circle- yeah I said it I wanna make noise or at least dance to it. It may be possible to use local culpeper facilities for such a thing. left free to the public there are many places we could use
get togethers with peeps of like open minds- we can do this at anytime in the existing community and support local busines to boot. I would hate to put a name on of this kinf=d of happening. the best word I can really think of when describing the local groovy peeps and freaks is bohemian-not really of any particular spiritual, not of any particular socio economic class, just creative open hearted people that want to spread light and love.

Oh and in the not so distant future I will be attending and vending at a Mabon Fetsival in standardsville and a Medieval fair in the Roanoke/Salem area. Come see at these events please, I try not to go to events that suck because I like to have a good time :)!

To wholesalers: Yes, I do have a store and vending venues, but i am the primary person who creates these products. I have no factory or apprentices it is all in home. I have very few items that I resell and those items are from companies that uphold my values for a greener earth and a social conscious relation with communities. Most of these companies are small and hand make each item and have a special energy about them. I do not resell items on my website, the website is for the promotion and enjoyment of my art. only at my retail venues do i use products not made by me. And yes i do sometimes carry items from artists that I have a personal conection, but that does not mean I am searching far and wide to purchase and consign items. i would like to stay pretty much an artist offering my stuff at a resonable price to people who enjoy it.

I will have all the things I have at my antique booth and possibly more t come from other artists. the artists featured in the store are very dear and close to me. I consider having their items an honor and even a favor because they have such good energy and dedication to humanity and the planet. I am not really taking portfolios or looking for artists to display in my shop i’m stiking close to those I really know well for now.

I will indeed have some retail items that I simply do not make. the belly dance gear is handmade in turkey and fairtrade. The inscense and love oils are made in this country. the sage is hand picked by a shaman in California. I will be carrying some things from gypsy rose, though limited because I have simular clothing. i will also carry some things from azure green though not a ton of stuff. i am registered with them so if anyone needs to order supplies from them I can do so. If it seems to be an item everybody wants well I can start to carry it.

Some things that I just dont carry are herbs and crystals. at least not at this time. I have mixed feeling about carrying crystals. I love them they are beautiful and if an artists has put them in their wands or other magickal art, then you will see them. However I am simply uncomfortable buying the stones and crystals wholesale. I don’t know where they come from and I am not that fond of mining. I have met many people who sell stones have great passion for them and do the mining tham selves and know these people to be honorable and reverant towards this process. And if the time comes that they would wish to deal through me then I would consider carrying their stones. With herbs I simply feel that we can find these at a store called herbal connection in culpeper and I do not wish to compete with a fellow merchant.

I will however have some specially charged mixes for magickal purposes. no there will not be love and money spells in my shop. only self love spells and recognition of abundance is but at your grasp if you have gratitude.

I am not allowed to do tarot card readings or palm readings in Culpeper it is in fact illegal to charge for fortune telling.. i may have some oracle cards and tarot decks for sale and you may do some of your own divination with tools in the store, but there is no charge and it your reading it not me.

If you seek healing, meditative guidance, or instruction on Earth based Spirituality we can do something privately scheduled at off store hours. A donation would be nice if I set time aside, though please understande that I am not permited to smudge or burn inscense in the buildin i rent in.

The primary purpose of this shop is to share art and hand made items that have a spiritual bend to them. I look foward to meeting new people and growing in time. fetsivals are still in my future. The store will either have someone watching it on those occasions or I will need to close at those times.

May 1st is the opening date I will be in there though please tolerate adjustments and settling. culpeper is als having a street Festival that weekend google “CULPEPER DAY” to find out when. Also I will be offering face painting on appoitment basis only. I really like to ive each child the time they deserve when this is done for them.
