My Moldy Mushroom Tent RIP at Foamhenge

posted 2008 Sep by Marjorie

I have done many festivals this year. Among them were Blueridge Beltane, insane with rain, The Virginia Renaissance Fair, The Stone Tower glen at the Natural Chimneys, and The Enchanted Fair at Foamhenge. This year of Fairs has been interesting and very challenging at times. My goal was to have a homemade adapted jury rigged sort of tent as my gypsy tent separate from my tree merchant tent. Kinda achieved it?

I used a patio umbrella and drop cloths for panting and hand sewed the entire thing with a needle and thread.

At the Stone Tower Glen realized I needed a top covering from the rain. I happened to have a canopy handy. I also realized the bottom was not safe from water with a tarp. Everything got wet! I had to dry it all out. So I thought no big deal. I’ll just use it for shade and rain shelter. At foamhenge I got out my moldy tent eww.

Maybe the sun would bleach the mildew. Then upon raising the umbrella one of the spokes broke. Unable to bear the weight of the heavy fabric. I took back what looked like a collasal squid.

Dragging that dead moldy mushroom tent around made me realize I would need an entire tribe to resurrect this thin with poles. So Rest In Peace moldy Mushroom Tent.

I still have a dream of creating a tent with lighter fabric. A magickal tent that pops up like a fashionable umbrella.

Nancy Diamond

posted 2008 Aug by Marjorie

Recently a wonderful person and fellow artist was killed in a drunk driving accident. This death has hit the very soul of the art group I have been with for the last ten years.

Nancy Diamond was a creative funky Artist who was known for her bright colors and endless depictions of cats. I once did a craft festival with her and she had many of her anotomically corect paper mache cats. One of her creations wound up on the whitehouse christmas tree during the clinton administration. She was quite proud of having her one her cat ornaments on the tree. She was an incredibly humorous woman with a bright honest personality. A sprite like lady. Her husband was also killed in the accident. He also enjoyed art and had many creations of his own.

On there way back from visiting family in Michigan celebrating her husband’s 80th birthday. Their car was struck. I was told they died instantly. Everyone in the art group loved nancy and a few lived near her. I can only imagine the sorrow of having such a great friend who you see daily no longer being around.

I’ll miss you Nancy and I thnk you for thinking outside the box and being so incredible.

Art around the world

posted 2008 Jul by Marjorie

I can only imagine what it is like to travel to the places and ledgends that inspire me. From Dublin to Dakkar I am inspired and hipnotized by the art and beauty I see. From Raw Art to fine art we are inspired by the same things: The human experience on this great big planet and our interactions with it expressed in the most imaginative ways possible. When you gaze upon a societies art you gaze upon it’s expressive soul.

New Stuff This Year at the Fairs

posted 2008 Apr by Marjorie

Whats gonna be under my gypsie tent this year.

New Embelished clothing

Saturday, April 12, 2008, 11:52 AM CST [Art And sales]

This week my focus will be on the clothing. The art graphix designs are finished and ready to be put on the bohemian /renwear. This year I have nice peasant and gypsie blouses with some great dresses for girls. There will be a limited number of faux jewel embelished ensembles. Some in chiffon and a line of fantastic black clothings with simple tasteful embelishments. I’m just saying we will have a magickal little black dress and a long black dress. These items can be customized for you. I will have some creations at the fairs.

So if ya see something ya like buy it because I am not going to repeat designs unless a custom order is placed. What oes this mean? It means you are getting things that are just for you, independent creations. This is not mass marketed clothing. I do not whole sale presently. And currently each peice is created by me and me alone. My activewear is from an american owned and operated . My bohemian. clothing that I embelish is from a reputable blanks company. Small in size.

Any jewelry is made strictly by me. And I tend not to want to repeat designs. So if you see it and like buy it.

I will be face painting at some of the fairs this year but not all. I will have fairy wings, dragon wings , crowns, masks, and possibly paper swords for children to decorate this year. All fees for this child centered activities is under 5 dollars. I’m a parent I know it’s expessive to entertain kids. I also truly enjoy allowing others to create and experience art. Most of the money goes back into the supplies and I’m fine with that. When you can create on your own it is worth every penny.

I will also have two belly dance ensembles. They are beautiful, no they are not my creations but very worthy for their dazzling sensual style.

I look foward to seeing you at the fairs!

Can It Be

posted 2008 Mar by Marjorie

the following are song lyrics I do have music that goes with it. The lyrics and music are copyrighted. Enjoy.

Can It Be
(verse 1 intro)
I wanna be slow dancin with youuu,
I wanna believe that you your heart can be true.
(chorus)
And I was wondering...
Oh can it be Oh can it be
And I was wondering...
Oh can it be Oh can it be
(verse 2)
I wanna feel like the sun shines everyday,
And I wanna feel like nothins in my way.
(chorus)
And I was wondering ...
Oh can it be oh can it be
And I was wondering...
Oh can it be Oh can it be
(bridge)
I had a dream that all my wishes came true,
I hung on the moon and caught a star with you.
We had a sweet kiss then let it go.
Oh can it be oh can it be.
(verse three)
I wanna hear my heart laughin out loud,
And I wanna see my face smiling in the crowd,
(chorus)
And I was wondering ...
oh can it be oh can it be.
And I was wondering...
Oh can it be Oh can it be
(bridge)
I swallowed my heart deep down inside.
I filled up this room without any pride.
I sang a sweet song then let it out.
Oh can it be oh can it be

the following are song lyrics I do have music that goes with it. The lyrics and music are copyrighted. Enjoy.

(Chorus Intro)
If you Stay , Take it one heartbeat at a time
And if you go, remember that you were mine.
Cause I won’t live without love close at hand
This where I stand. Take me as I am. Do you understand?

(Verse One)
Sometimes we see ourselves in you and me, don’t like what ya see.
Sometimes we don’t like what we might say. Say it anyway.
Then yaou walk away , then ya walk away.

(Chorus)
But if you Stay , Take it one heartbeat at a time
And if you go, remember that you were mine.
Cause I won’t live without love close at hand
This where I stand. Take me as I am. Do you understand?

(Verse Two)
Sometimes we don’t know how we feel. Thats when it’s real.
Sometimes we don’t know what we believe, cause we’ve been decieved.
And thats when ya leave , thats when ya leave.

(Chorus)
But if you Stay , Take it one heartbeat at a time
And if you go, remember that you were mine.
Cause I won’t live without love close at hand
This where I stand. Take me as I am. Do you understand?

(Bridge)
My heart goes up and down.
Spinnin all around
Cryin while I laugh this to will pass.

(Chorus)
But if you Stay , Take it one heartbeat at a time
And if you go, remember that you were mine.
Cause I won’t live without love close at hand
This where I stand. Take me as I am. Do you understand?

Valentine's day

posted 2008 Feb by Marjorie

The History of Saint Valentine’s Day copied from http://www.pictureframes.co.uk/pages/saint_valentine.htm
Valentine’s Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honour Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.
The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl’s name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that the reason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honour of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.

The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavoured to do away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine’s Day for the celebration of this new feaSt. So it seems that the custom of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for the coming year, arose in this way.

Green Hill Medieval Fair

Look closely to see the moon !
Roanoke County welcomed the renfair obsssed from far and wide. Medieval Fantasies Company was able to attract many fine vendors, reinactors, and performers. The turnout was spectacular!

The Queen and Black Knight held a fine Court to patrons.

We were well protected by a gallant crusading knight.

My magical brood traveled with my gypsie heart.

Later they chose their own destiny and rode with a viking ship to pillage and plunder.

I will be back next year with more art and trinkets. I may even read a palm or two next time.

  • this is my poetry and is copyrighted along with my art. i have music to this song and hope to have it playing someday with the website. We’ll see. For now I feel compelled to share.

Black Butterfly,
Fly with me tonight,
Black Butterfly ,
Won’t ya just be kind to me.

Saw ya in the moonlight dancing all around,
Saw ya travel towards me ,
And you almost touched the ground.

Black Butterfly,
Fly with me tonight.
Black Butterfly ,
Won’t ya just be kind to me.

Saw ya in my dreams,
Your shadows drifted across my face.
Saw the blue on your wing,
and it put me in my place.

Thinkin about puts a smile
on my lips.
Put my hand in the wind ,
So you can touch my finger tips.

Black Butterfly,
Fly with me tonight.
Black butterfly,
Just be kind to me.

Gloucester Ren Faire

posted 2007 Jul by Marjorie

I had much fun at this event. Many people from that area were happy to see something different and magickal in their area. For the first time I brought my girls along, they enjoyed dressing up and visiting with the other merchants children. I also introduced my new line of Ren Faire friendly Clothing and two new graphic designs. These Butterfly designs were well received. The flowing skirts, gypsy blouses, and mens shirts and other fantasy type clothing will be available in the fall online. Until then you will just have to visit my booth! This clothing is also modern day friendly for people who like a BOHEMIAN look. There are new girls dresses as well.

I thank everyone for supporting my art at these faire, festivals, and shows that I attend. Being an artist and making a having a business is not easy, but it is worth it when people still appreciate original designs and ideas. I try to make my art available in very functional ways to give the customer the ability to express the magick that is within them. I could not do this without all of you.

Stone Tower Glenn Renaissance Faire

posted 2007 Jun by Marjorie

This was truly a faire to remember! My gypsie heart had a wonderful time selling my wares.

I had painted a new “Tree of Life” on my tent. It looked magickal against the Natural Chimnies Stone Tower.

A celtic potter set herself free of her bonds!

In the distant Towers a Barbarian observed danger!

Dragons were approaching!

A pirate and the Barbarian fought the dragons fiercely!

The musicians played and rejoiced!

The fairies danced and the woodland creatures enjoyed the show.

I met another wise magickal gypsie.

Sometimes being at the fair was difficult.

A naughty young lad kept playing tricks on me. So I used my Gypsie Magick to turn him into a tricky fox. Unfortunately he ducked when I cast the spell. It was only half effective. His hair did get a bit redder but the tail he so now loves got infected. I am afraid it will have to be removed. Otherwise it was a Magickal Day.

Magick, Expressionistic Art, and Magickal Clothing

posted 2007 Jun by Marjorie

I believe that Magick can be found in every culture and every religion. From Pagans to Christians Magickal symbols have been used to represent concepts in art. In Medieval art many pagan symbols were used by Christians to represent their Ideas. The mythical unicorn is a symbol of purity and often used to represent the purity of Christ.

In my own art I am heavily influenced by mystical creatures magickal beings and how they relate to nature. I use an expressionistic style in my art. Most fantasy art is in a more surreal format. I find that the expressionistic style makes the art even more interesting and allows for romance.

Clothing has always been used to express who we are and what we enjoy. I love romantic clothing and I love magickal themes. I also love being in the outdoors and doing very active things. A peasant blouse is not always practical on a five mile hike. I found modern active-wear in very feminine styles. Having Magickal images on my active-wear allows me to feel connected to my own spirituality and a sense of magick.
